Hold onto your Infinity Stones, Marvel fans—Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo Brothers are making a blockbuster return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and they’re not just saving the world this time; they’re securing some seriously hefty paychecks. According to a juicy report from Variety, the dynamic directing duo Joe and Anthony Russo are co-producing the next two Avengers movies under their production house AGBO Films, in a rare co-production deal with Marvel Studios.
Let’s talk numbers because, oh boy, are they eye-popping. Marvel is reportedly shelling out a cool $80 million to the Russo Brothers to helm Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. That’s right, $80 million—enough to buy a small country or, in Marvel terms, a few more CGI battles. But wait, there’s more! Their deal includes performance bonuses that kick in if the movies hit $750 million and $1 billion at the box office. Given that the Russos raked in a staggering $4.85 billion with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, those bonuses seem less like a stretch and more like a foregone conclusion.

But the Russo Brothers aren’t the only ones cashing in. Robert Downey Jr., the man who single-handedly kicked off the MCU with Iron Man and has been a fan favorite ever since, is reportedly getting paid “significantly more” than the Russo Brothers’ tidy sum. In fact, RDJ’s return to the MCU came with one non-negotiable demand: the Russos must direct. A source close to the dealmaking revealed, “They were the only ones he would work with.” Well, when you’re the highest-paid actor in MCU history, you can make demands like that.
And if you thought that was it, think again. RDJ’s contract isn’t just about the cash—it’s about the lifestyle. Perks include private jet travel, dedicated security, and a sprawling “trailer encampment” on set. Because if you’re going to play a billionaire genius, playboy philanthropist, you might as well live like one, right?

For context, RDJ has reportedly pulled in somewhere between $500 million and $600 million for his numerous appearances as Iron Man, from four Avengers films to three standalone Iron Man movies, and even cameos in The Incredible Hulk and Spider-Man: Homecoming. And now, in a twist no one saw coming, RDJ is set to return as the MCU’s new big bad, Doctor Doom. It seems that even after snapping his fingers and disappearing, Tony Stark just can’t stay away from the limelight—or the paycheck.
