For years, Karan Johar’s talk show, Koffee With Karan, has been a staple in pop culture, and one of its most notorious segments, the Rapid Fire round, has become the stuff of legend. However, in a surprising turn of events, Karan Johar recently disclosed that the team has considered removing the infamous Rapid Fire segment. The segment, known for putting celebrities in tight spots with its rapid-fire questions, has seen a shift in dynamics as guests have become more cautious about their responses over time.
The revelation came during a Koffee With Karan event in Mumbai, where Karan Johar acknowledged that guests on the show have grown more cautious about what they reveal during the Rapid Fire round. He said, “We kept coming back to finding a replacement to Rapid Fire and the sad thing is people are much more worried now than they were in the first few seasons. Nobody wants a PR nightmare. Everyone is so careful that you have to make sure that you change the language of Rapid Fire so that you will get something.”
The director emphasized that the sensitivity prevailing in the current era has made it challenging to maintain the spontaneity of the Rapid Fire round. Celebrities, once known for their unabashed answers, now approach the segment with caution. The fear of stirring controversies and facing repercussions has led to a more guarded and calculated approach during the rapid-fire questioning.

Karan was heard saying, “There were times when people have answered with abandon, like most underrated and overrated, and answers were flowing. Today, I won’t answer those so how can I expect them? We all have built a sensitive climate. Social media has made us so much more sensitised with sensitivity. So, everyone is sensitive about what they are saying, what they are expected to say, fan clubs get angry, I don’t want any of that.”
Addressing concerns about potential censorship and editing, Karan Johar clarified that he has never removed content with potential repercussions. While certain scenes may be edited for entertainment purposes, nothing of consequence or significance has been cut out. Karan affirmed, “I’ve never asked to remove anything that I’ve said that is too personal or perhaps an opinion, which will have repercussions and ramifications, and it’s all there. There’s proof of that.”
