The 67th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony turned out to be special for many musicians including Chennai-born, Indian-American businesswoman Chandrika Tandon. The vocalist won her first Grammy award for her album Triveni in the Best New Age, Ambient or Chant Album category. The album is reportedly a blend of ancient chants and world music.
For those who don’t know, the 71-year-old musician is the elder sister of Indra Nooyi, former PepsiCo CEO. Nooyi has consistently ranked in the world’s 100 most powerful women. She even sits on the boards of International Cricket Council and Amazon.

Quoting musicacademy.org, Hindustan Times reports that Tandon has been awarded numerous times for her leadership and integrity. Her list of awards include the Gallatin Medal, the Walter Nichols Medal, and the Polytechnic Medal. She was also announced as the 2018 recipient of the BCA Leadership Award.
Talking about her experience as a composer and vocalist, she was trained in Hindustani, Carnatic, and Western traditions. Chandrika’s first full-length studio album, Soul Call (2009), was nominated for Best Contemporary World Music Album at the Grammys in 2011. Her other albums are titled – Soul March (2013), Soul Mantra (2014), Shivoham – The Quest (2017), Ammu’s Treasures (2023), and Triveni (2024).

Tandon’s last album was a collaborative project along with Wouter Kellerman, a South African flautist, and Eru Matsumoto, a Japanese cellist. The seven-track album was created as a “meditative journey” for the listeners and promoted “inner healing.” She was nominated alongside Ricky Kej’s Break of Dawn, Ryuichi Sakamoto’s Opus, Anoushka Shankar’s Chapter II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn, and Radhika Vekaria’s Warriors Of Light in the Best New Age, Ambient or Chant Album category.
