Veteran actor Anupam Kher made his directorial debut with the recently released film Tanvi The Great. Release last month, the movie received a lot of mixed reactions from the netizens as well as critics. Partially crowd-funded for Rs 50 crore, the film made around Rs 2 crore at the box-office collection. He recently sat down for a chat on the Chalchitra Talks’ The Longest Interview podcast; however he refused to answer any questions about the film, since the interviewer hadn’t watched it prior to the interview.
A video of the same is now going viral on the subreddit Bolly Blinds N Gossip with the caption, “How to make the host uncomfortable feat. The Great Anupam Kher.” In the video, the interviewer is heard asking Kher, “What has been your learning as a director?” The senior actor dismissed his question and stated that he won’t be talking about it on his podcast as “you haven’t watched my film.”

The host explained that interview was finalised only the previous evening and he has flown to Mumbai from Jaipur on the morning of the interview. The 70-year-old actor stated he had around 20 days to watch the film.
Quoted by the Indian Express, he said, “I will not answer this question because you will not know what my reference point is.” Upon his answer, the host prompted him to answer the question for his fans who have watched the movie and might understand his reference. Denying it, he claimed, “You don’t have to apologise. I’m not one of those insecure people… I can answer the audience on a different podcast.”
Anupam told the host that the latter had been in conversation with his team to set up the interview for a week. As the interview denied the claim, Kher added, “There is no defence in this. You are not ready to admit that you didn’t do your job, but you still want answers from me.”

As soon as the video went viral on social media, netizens sympathised with the interviewer and lauded him for maintaining composure through all the grilling. One wrote, “He handled it so well. Pyaar se apna point rakha and correct boldiya. It’s on the PR and the manager. Of course as a cinema podcast, he should have watched the film. But PRs often tell you literally last minute that something is happening. Matlab aise 15 min pehle bhi they tell journalists that they have an interview with so and so artiste. For a podcaster, it’s a big opportunity to miss it for whatever reason.”

For those who don’t know, Tanvi The Great features debutante Shubhangi Dutt, who essays the role of a 21-year-old Tanvi Raina, an autistic woman who is determined to fulfill her late father’s dream of hoisting the Indian flag at Siachen. Scheduled for a release on July 18, 2025, the movie also stars Shubhangi Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Pallavi Joshi, Boman Irani, and Karan Tacker in pivotal roles.
