After 28 years and many notable works, Hollywood star Cillian Murphy bagged his first-ever Oscar nomination for Best Actor. The actor received an Academy nod for his exceptional role in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. In an interview with The New York Times, the actor revealed he was ‘kind of a little shocked’ when he received the joyous news via numerous texts.
The actor was in Cork, Ireland, with his parents and wife enjoying a cup of tea when his ‘phone started popping’. ”It’s very, very humbling,” Cillian reacted to his Oscar nod and continued, ”It’s just a real honor to be involved in a film that has connected so powerfully with people in a way that we never expected”.
Cillian Murphy played the role of American theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer aka father of the atomic bomb in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. The film was up against Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and collected over $950 million at the worldwide box office. Cillian and Christopher Nolan have collaborated six times before but Oppenheimer was the first project when the actor took the lead.

Cillian Murphy also revealed that he started prepping for his complex role six months prior to the filming which contained ‘an awful lot of reading and research’ and watching old archives footage of the physicist. Talking about working with Christopher Nolan for the seventh time, he stated,
”I don’t think I could have made this film with anyone else, without that level of trust that goes back six movies and 20 years. He really, really pushed me and I wanted to be pushed. He expects excellence from you because that’s what he delivers himself every single day.”
Oppenheimer led the Oscars nominations night by bagging 13 nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director and more.
