Known for its women-led team and focus on sustainable sourcing, the school offers a delicious way to connect with California’s farm-to-table ethos.
Content Creator Aakash Malhotra recommends a coastal bike ride from Santa Monica Pier to the path. “If you do one thing in California, rent a bike in Santa Monica and just ride. No GPS. No rush. Further up the Central Coast, Pismo Beach in San Luis Obispo offers a high-octane history lesson. A unique experience I doubt I’d have been able to do anywhere else!”
Morro Bay slows everything down. Its centerpiece, Morro Rock, is a 23-million-year-old volcanic plug sacred to the Chumash people. The bay itself is ideal for e-foiling, an adventurous blend of surfing and flying that’s surprisingly beginner-friendly.
Further inland, Santa Margarita Ranch invites riders to explore on horseback through vineyards and oak-lined trails. Operated by multi-generational winegrowing families, it’s a living nod to California’s rancho roots. For lunch, Ancient Peaks Winery pairs estate-grown varietals with a farm-to-table menu. Nearby, the Camp CASS Experience & Tasting in Paso Robles just 30 minutes away, brings together outdoor adventure and luxury tasting along with wine classes, sidecar tours and more.
End your day at Sensorio and its immersive art installations featuring over 100,000 solar-powered fiber-optic lights that you can walk through, creating one of the most surreal visual experiences.
Awe and Delight in the High Sierra
In the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park, everything grows quiet and purposeful. One of the state’s 9 National parks, the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park is famous for Mount Whitney, the largest mountain in the contiguous USA, giant sequoias, deep canyons, and rivers offering a bounty of adventure such as hiking, bouldering, rafting, and mountain biking. Trails lead to General Sherman, the world’s largest living tree, and through the Giant Forest’s House and Senate groves. Winter reveals a softer side: snow-draped trunks, ranger-led snowshoe tours, and Tharp’s Log, a 19th-century cabin carved into a fallen sequoia. Tunnel Log offers a drive-through moment of wonder, a literal passage through California’s natural grandeur.
