Before diving headfirst into the world of music and scoring international hits and becoming a household name, Harry Sandhu was a fast-rising cricketer, playing in India’s under-19 and almost making it to the IPL. But, things took a turn soon and Harry Sandhu had to quit the sport due to an irreversible injury.
Recently, Harry Sandhu appeared on Mashable India’s The Bombay Journey, where the host, Siddharth Alambayan, asked him about his cricketing days, and the reason behind him finally quitting the game. Talking about the same, Harry Sandhu said, “First jo meri injury hui thi, wo hui thi aise hi khelte-khelte because uss time hamare saath travel karte the sirf ek manager team ke, no physio, no doctor, puri team ke saath sirf ek manager, jo same coach bhi tha. Same guy is the coach, same guy is the manager.”

He then continued, “Toh hum, main fast bowler tha, bilkul flat wickets pe khelte the. Hard wickets hoti thi, aur hum karte jaa rahe hai, chaar match khel liye, four-day matches hote the… khud hi stretching, khud hi everything. Toh dheere-dheere ek hi jagah pe stress padta tha, aur ek din fracture hogaya. And usi time I got selected also for India under-19. Venkatesh Prasad was the coach, tab aise mujhe darr lagta tha ki team se nikal denge, injury hogayi hai. Batana nahi hai, aur main injury bina bataye match bhi khel gaya. Pehle darr tha nikal denge, aur ab injury ke kaaran agle match mein nikal diya.”
Talking about this mental health back then, Harry Sandhu continued, “Itne mushkil se you perform and get into the Indian team, and then you get injured toh bohot, bohot sad tha main. But, uss time mera second-last year tha under-19 mein. I was 18. I had a year left, so I thought I would recover. Par dukh toh hua bohot!”
