James Gunn’s Superman has collected a cool Rs 7 crore on the first day of box office, per reports. Meanwhile, Bollywood flicks, Rajkummar Rao-starrer Maalik and Vikrant Massey-Shanaya Kapoor’s Aankhon Ki Gusthakiyaan, failed to impress. Maalik made Rs 3.48 crore, while Aankhon Ki Gusthakiyaan couldn’t even get past Rs one crore, earning a mere 35 lakh. While David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult-starrer Superman is eyeing Rs 40 crore at the desi box office and is expected to soar past the $200 million mark. The English occupancy in the theater for the latest in the DCU on day one was 15.74%.

Reviews for the latest Superman have been generally favorable, with high praise for the comic-accurate script. Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor has been hailed for bringing alive one of the most loathed villains on screen. Corenswet and Brosnahan’s dynamism has enthralled the fans, and so did the charming superdoggo Krypto stealing the screen.
However, desi fans were left high and dry after they found out the CBFC had cut a 33-second-long kissing scene between Superman and Lois from the movie, allegedly to grant the movie a U/A 13+ certificate.
