Filmmaker, actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut is currently gearing up for the release of her much-awaited film Emergency. Written, directed and co-produced by the actress, she essays the role of the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. She recently came as a guest on the singing reality show Indian Idol season 15 to promote her movie. In the promo, released by the makers of the show, she requests Shreya Ghoshal and Biswarup Banerjee, a contestant in the show, to sing Raaz: The Mystery Continues’ famous song Soniyo.
Originally sung with Shreya and Sonu Nigam, the 2009 supernatural horror film also stars Kangana’s ex-boyfriend Adhyayan Suman and Emraan Hashmi in lead roles. In the video released by the makers on the channel’s official Instagram account, the 38-year-old actress is seen requesting the singer to sing the song. Excitedly agreeing to it, Ghoshal tells her, “Your request is my command.”

As Biswarup and Shreya start singing the song, Kangana is seen getting nostalgic and emotional. She hums the song while getting teary-eyed. The caption of the post, shared on the Instagram, reads, “Kangana ki request par Biswarup aur Shreya ma’am gaayenge Soniyo (On Kangana’s request, Biswarup and Shreya will sing Soniyo).”
For those who don’t know, Kangana and Adhyayan dated each other in 2008-2009. Their relationship ended on an ugly note with the latter making serious allegations against the actress. According to media reports, he claimed that she was an “abusive girlfriend” who made his life “hellish,” during the one year that they dated. The 36-year-old actor also claimed during an interview with DNA, that the Tanu Weds Manu actress “verbally abused” him and slapped him with so much force that he ended up crying.

On the work front, Kangana Ranaut will be next seen in Emergency, which is set to release on the big screens on January 17th. The film is based on the 21-month Emergency period declared in India under the leadership of the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. It also stars Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, and the late Satish Kaushik among many others.
