Kapur was a key figure in India’s automotive industry, leading Sona Comstar, a global automotive technology company founded by his father, Surinder Kapur, in 1995. The firm supplies components to major vehicle manufacturers, including electric vehicle makers. Kapur also served as president of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) and held directorships in companies like Jindal Steel & Power Limited. His leadership helped position Sona Comstar as a leader in EV technology. Following his death, the company’s shares dropped nearly 8%, reflecting market concerns, though Sona Comstar assured stakeholders that operations remain stable.
Born into a prominent business family, Kapur was an MIT and Harvard alumnus. His personal life often drew public attention. He married three times: first to fashion designer Nandita Mahtani (divorced in 2000), then to Karisma Kapoor in 2003, and later to Priya Sachdev in 2017. Kapur and Kapoor, who divorced in 2016, share two children, Samaira and Kiaan. He also had a son, Azarias, with Sachdev and adopted her daughter from a previous marriage.
