Google Pay is set to bring about a powerful AI feature that will allow users to make UPI payments by speaking, eliminating the need to type. Google Pay, often referred to as GPay, is developing this AI-powered feature to enhance user experience and provide greater convenience.
Sharat Bulusu, Lead Product Manager of Google Pay in India, stated that this voice feature will simplify the digital payment process. While specific details about the AI voice feature are yet to be revealed, this innovation has the potential to revolutionise digital payments.
Millions of Google Pay users in India, particularly those who are not literate, stand to benefit significantly from this new AI feature. It will make online payments accessible and convenient for them.
According to reports users will be able to complete transactions by simply providing voice instructions. However, Google has not yet announced a launch date for this feature.
This initiative is being developed in collaboration between Google and the Union Government. It is part of the Bhashini AI project, which aims to enable people to make payments in their local languages.
Furthermore, Google is investing in machine learning and AI technologies to combat the growing threat of cyber fraud in India. Google’s new AI feature is expected to play a crucial role in safeguarding users against online scams and threats.
PhonePe and Google Pay are the dominant players in the Indian UPI payment market. Data from a November 2024 report revealed that Google Pay holds a 37 percent share of total UPI transactions, while PhonePe leads with 47.8 percent. These two platforms collectively account for over 80 percent of the UPI market share in India.
