As filmmaker Priyadarshan and actor Akshay Kumar wrapped up the shoot of their upcoming film, a horror-comedy, Bhoot Bangla, fans were gearing up for an update on Hera Pheri 3. However, after all the controversy, what with Paresh Rawal quitting the movie without telling one, and then a few weeks later reconciling with them, netizens have been speculating if the project will even go on floors. Now, amidst all the demand for an update on the film, the filmmaker has announced his next project, Haiwaan.
Before sharing an update on Hera Pheri 3, Priyadarshan took to his Instagram handle to share a photo of Akshay and Saif Ali Khan chatting together at the India Vs England test match at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. Taking to his caption, he announced his next film, Haiwaan. He captioned the post, “‘Haiwaan’ my next film with @akshaykumar and Saif Ali Khan at Lords.”

While fans were ecstatic over the reunion, others wondered what was happening with Hera Pheri 3. According to various media reports, Haiwaan is a remake of the Malayalam film Oppam, which was directed by Priyadarshan. Originally starring Mohanlal and Samuthirakani in the lead, the movie was a hit at the box office and even won many awards.

Talking about the Hera Pheri franchise, it sees Akshay Kumar essay the role of Raju, Paresh Rawal as Baburao Ganpatrao Apte aka Babu Bhaiya and Suniel Shetty as Shyam. While Hera Pheri (2000) also starred Tabu and Gulshan Grover, the second instalment of the film, Phir Hera Pheri (2006), co-starred Bipasha Basu, Rajpal Yadav and Rimi Sen in pivotal roles. The first instalment was directed by Priyadarshan, whereas the second instalment was directed by the late filmmaker Neeraj Vora. Priyadarshan returned to the franchise as a director for the third instalment.
