In a recent revelation, actress Richa Chadha shared an interesting anecdote about filming a solo dance number for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix drama series – Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. While speaking with Zoom, she revealed that she got drunk for the task which the actress was having hard time accomplishing.
For the dance sequence, Richa’s character required her to perform a “drunk dancing” routine authentically. However, despite multiple retakes, she found herself struggling to complete the scene. In order to get it done, she decided to take an unconventional approach – she drank some gin to get into character.
“On the first day, I wasn’t getting it, to do the drunk dancing. So, after 30-40 takes, I thought let me have a quarter and see what happens. I did have some gin,” she told Zoom. She, however, revealed that drinking made things worse.

Richa said that her body movements became lethargic after drinking and this hindered her ability to complete the scene. Realising that being drunk was doing more harm than good, she pretended to be drunk instead.
Reflecting on her experience, Richa emphasised the technical aspects of filming such scenes and highlighted the importance of hitting the mark and interacting with the surroundings.
In her characteristic candid style, she also remarked that she couldn’t do method acting because she was “already too much into it.”
