Crayon Shin-chan The Movie; Our Dinosaur Diary released in 2024 in Japan and became one of the highest grossing movies of the year. The film is all set to release in India on May 9 in several dubs including Hindi which essentially has been childhood for several generations. The film brings back every character imaginable from the series back to the big screen with Avengers like event, major villains, and emotional arc with a message for young audience.
The film beings with Shin Chan getting ready to celebrate summer vacation, but Nohara family’s fans to go to the beach are cancelled. Shin Chan’s dad is called to office, and it leaves him with the option to go out and play with his friends. The family is seen going through its usual tasks, Shiro is seen taking care of himself, Mrs Nohara taking care of Shin Chan’s dad and Himawari. Shin Chan decides to step out with the gang and go to the park, meanwhile, the country is getting ready to welcome Dinosaurs back to civilization in an island park.
While his parents won’t take him Shin Chan and his group find a way to visit the park, thanks to Ai Suotome’s special invitation. However, things aren’t as easy as it seem at the Park. At the beginning we get a glimpse of someone running away from the park with a baby dinosaur which falls into the same place where Shin Chan lives. The kids eventually find the baby dinosaur, who Shiro has been taking care of. For the rest of the runtime, the kids keep Nana safe from the park and others who want to harm her.

The film brings back all of Shin Chan’s classic antics, while also keeping the story unique and interesting. The makers do explore several elements in the predictable plot, with emotional arc for the villains as well as a deeper connection between Nana and all the friends of Shin Chan. Shiro remains the hero as he usually is in Shin Chan storylines, the sanest one of all. The direction of the film by Shinobu Sasaki is worth the big screen experience.
Despite the predictable plot, the voice actors of the Hindi dub make a big impact on the film. Ani Ramanikal Shah has voiced beloved Shin Chan and Shiro, who brings back childhood memories from the small screen TV series. The writing does take full advantage of its protagonist, and the aware audience. There are a few meta moments, while others that make it obvious the plot is for laughs, but it doesn’t matter as the comic timing almost always lands.

There are several moments where the dub has changed from the original dialogues, and many of the written material is not translated. It doesn’t hinder the experience by much, but it could add to the charm and comedy of the film. The film does bring back every single character from the series as cameos with their most chrematistic traits, which leaves an Avengers Endgame like vibes.
Overall, the film ups the game for other comedy anime releases for big screen. Its wholesome, funny and leaves a lesson behind for kids. The older audience are sure to have a blast too.
