Veteran Bollywood actress turned Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan never minces her words when it comes to sharing her thoughts about the current affairs and news that are making the headlines. Sunday evening turned into a nightmare for comedian Kunal Kamra fans and the owners of The Habitat comedy studio, as Shiv Sena workers from Eknath Shinde faction reached the venue and brutally vandalised it in search of Kamra. All of this happened because Kunal mocked the Maharashtra Deputy CM during his stand up comedy.

Bachchan now, has reacted to the entire controversy and questioned the state of freedom of speech in the country. She criticized the party and its workers’ selective nature of outrage and governance. During an interaction with the media outside the Parliament on Monday, quoted by the Free Press Journal, she asked, “If such steps are being taken for saying something, then where is freedom of speech? There is only freedom of action when there’s hooliganism and women are raped, where else?”

Referring to the Shinde faction leaving their original party to form another one, she questioned if that was considered as an insult to Balasaheb Thackeray, who had founded Shiv Sena.

For those who don’t know, the outrage was caused after Kunal through a song, sent to the tune of a popular song from Dil To Pagal Hai, mocked Shinde for separating from his own party. As a video of the same went viral on social media, Shiv Sena party workers gathered at Khar Police Station to file a complaint against the 36-year-old comedian.

Other party workers approached the MIDC Police Station to lodge a complaint, MLA Murji Patel of Shiv Sena (Shinde) was also present at the police station with the workers. During an interaction with the Free Press Journal, Patel told the media publication that if he doesn’t apologise within two days, they would smear “black color on his face.”

According to a recent development, the Mumbai Police has registered an FIR against 20 people, including Rahool Kanal for ransacking the Habitat Comedy Club.
